GenePeeks Privacy Policy

Personal Information

We are deeply committed to the privacy of our clients, and we maintain strict policies on the use and protection of client data. We will not collect your name, address, telephone number or e-mail address ("Personal Information") unless you enter it yourself in the space provided on (our “Website”), and we will only use your Personal Information for the reasons that you give it to us. We will not share your Personal Information with any third party without your prior consent unless (a) we are obligated to do so by law, or (b) such third party is necessary to protect your Personal Information in a manner that is consistent with this policy. You may change the information you have given us by re-entering it in the space provided on our Website. If we change this Privacy Policy, we will post a description of the change on our Website.

Data security is an integral part of our privacy efforts, and we have put in place reasonable physical, electronic and administrative safeguards to secure the information we collect from you. Our safeguards are consistent with the intent of the standards established in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”). To protect confidentiality, Personal Information is encrypted in-transit and at-rest, and anonymity is maintained where reasonably practical. Our payment systems vendor uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), an advanced encryption protocol, to scramble credit card information that you enter so that it cannot be read as it is transmitted across the Internet. SSL is the worldwide industry standard for securing transactions, and is used to maximize data safety when using a credit card on the web.

Some types of communications to you may not be encrypted or secure from third-party access and therefore have a risk of unauthorized disclosure or access comparable to other types of non-encrypted communications you may use. You can minimize the risks of unauthorized third-party disclosure associated with such communications by protecting against unauthorized access to your password and computer. We also provide you with information on how to opt-out by requesting that we communicate with you using only encrypted methods.

As with any security system, GenePeeks cannot guarantee that its systems and safeguards will not be breached. In the event that our security system is breached, we will attempt to notify you as soon as possible.

Use of Cookies

To improve your experience on our Website, we may use "cookies." Cookies are a very standard Internet technology that places text files in your computer's browser to store your preferences. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us Personal Information about you, unless you choose to provide this information to us by entering it yourself in the space provided on our Website. However, once you choose to enter your Personal Information on our Website, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookie. We use cookies to understand usage and to improve our content and offerings. For example, we may use cookies to personalize your experience on our web pages (e.g., to recognize you by name when you return to our site) and save your password in password-protected areas. We may also use small pieces of code called "web beacons" or "clear gifs" to collect anonymous and aggregate advertising metrics, such as counting page views or responses to advertising. These web beacons may be used to deliver cookies that conform to our cookie policy. We will not use cookies to track your activity outside of our Website.

GenePeeks may send you transactional e-mails and other service-related announcements as part of the operations of supporting your user experience. For example, we may send you e-mail messages that facilitate or confirm an action you have taken on our Website. Also, we may use the information you give us to send you non-transactional information and materials about our services that we think may be of value to you. We will provide you with information on how to opt-out of non-transactional communications if you choose to do so.

Except for individuals you designate as part of our service (e.g., your physician), we will share your information with a third party only in limited circumstances as described in our agreements with you and in our Terms of Use. For example, we may provide Personal Information such as name, e-mail or other identifying data to third-party services, such as a third-party e-mail service or sales service, contracted with us for the purpose of operating GenePeeks services. Likewise, third-party apps, websites or other services that are connected to or integrated with GenePeeks services, such as Google login authentication, may provide us with user information. Therefore, if you use these types of services to login to the GenePeeks Website, we may receive information that you provided during authorization of that third-party account. GenePeeks reserves the right to use data collected from third-party services in accordance with our Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy. To the extent you use third-party sites that are integrated with GenePeeks services, any Terms of Services specific to third-party sites that are integrated with GenePeeks services will apply to your use.
